Large File size

Frank G

I am using Publisher 2000 and I am inserting 3 or 4
pictures into a document. The file size is very large
(30MB). I understand that Microsoft has recongnized that
there is a problem with inserting pictures and that the
file size increases unexpectedly. However I did not see
any patch or fix for the problem.

Does anyone know a fix or work-around for this problem.

What is more, if you delete the picture files, the picture file actually
remains internally in the Publisher file.
This is a major bug that was not fixed until Publisher 2003.

Does doing a Save As produce a smaller file with Publisher?

No, the sizes are output identical with Save and Save As. Did plenty of
testing with that scenario awhile ago.

good to know. must "pack" the file during save while most apps will only
"pack" it during saveas.

Mac, this problem appeared in Publisher 2002 as well. The reason this
was fixed in 2003 is because they made the save and save as identical.
This prevents Microsoft Publisher from retaining or growing in file size
when REMOVING objects. Publisher 2003 allows the size of the publication
to finally reduce in size.
