last modified date isn't updated after publishing

I just published changes to my site on the web. My
changes are visible on the web, but the last modified
date showed an old date. I have the last modified date
in a shared border in Front Page. Thanks for any help to
this mystery.

Select the date and in date properties select the option to use last time automatically updated
