last name, first name in contacts list for a new email message

greetings. i'm sure this has been asked hundreds of times but there are many
thousands of threads to sort thru to find the answer so i will ask again. i
apologize for doing so. i'm using outlook 2003. when i create a new email
message and click on 'to' in order to add a contact's email addy to the
field, the names are shown in 'first name, last name' order. i'd like that
to be shown in 'last name, first name' order. how do i do that? any help
will be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance and have a wonderful day.

Tools, email accounts, view/change address books <next>, properties of
Outlook Address Book, change to "File As" (I have *no* idea why it doesn't
default to that, honestly).

And you are correct. Google will handle that search with ease.

Tools>E-mail Accounts>View or change existing directories or address
books>Next. Select Outlook Address Book and click Change. Pick the order
you wish.
