Latest Skinny on Cost Resources

Last I checked (about a year ago), the use of Cost Resources wasn't
recommended due to issues with multiple assignments and timephased cost data.

Curious if that's still the general opinion, or if anyone's started using
them extensively without those issues - specifically to create a timephased
budget?

Note that I am not talking about Budget Cost Resources, but Cost Resources
applied to tasks.

Thanks in advance.

From memory, the "only" issue is when using Cost Resources on a Task with
one or more Work Resources and updating from Project Server. If you are not
connected to Project Server or are not updating from My Tasks then you
should be OK.

As I recall, there was an issue where if you edit the timephased costs in the
Resource/Task Usage Views, the numbers wouldn't add up correctly....or the
totals would get corrupted or something like that.

That helped - so the issues/feature quirks with Project Server then are still
existing....at least as of the Post-SP1 IU. I am still a bit hesitant to
chalk that many usage restrictions up to simple training issues.

Hi Andrew,

To the best of my knowledge, the advice on usage is still in effect.

Talking with some folks at Microsoft recently, I believe this usage
recommendation continues with Project Server 2010 as well. Hope this helps.
