Launching Word doc takes either 5 min or crashes my program.

Hi, I can open word files in MS word2003 with no problem or delay. But when
I try to launch a word document from another program like my email, it takes
5min or crashes my email program. It happens with other programs also.

I've reinstalled word2003.

I've confirmed my folder option >> file types all list word2003 as the app
for doc files.

Any other ideas? Thanks in advance for your help, Jill.

What are you using as your email client? If Word opens DOCs OK, then it
suggests that maybe mail.dot is corrupt (it should be located in the same
folder as normal.dot). Rename it as email.bad and test again.

We use lotus notes as our email program but it isn't the only program that
won't bring up a word doc. I have an issue if I try to launch a word doc
from file manager or any database repository too. It seems the connection to
use word from another program is lost ... it results in crashing the program
or if I'm lucky 5 minutes delay until it opens ... thanks so much for your

It sounds more like an over-zealous Antivirus or there isn't sufficient
permissions. But first, run the Word Repair option (under the Help menu) and
test again.

If it still fails, do you have the problem if Word is running when you try
to open a document from email?
What happens if you save your document to the local HDD before trying to
open it in Word?
