I think the above utility would solve my export problem to Word. However, we
are working in A2003, and the download seems to be for A97 only - it won't
allow me to convert. Is there an updated version available.
My problem, the file transfer to word trunctuates text and memo fields and
some labels. I understand from reading this newgroup that this is a problem,
and that the above utility may resolve it.
Thanks for any advise.

Error Message: You are trying to read only database. You must be able to
write changes to the databes. .... Your license must have expired.
Checked properties, it's not set to Read Only.
I do not have A97 installed, but can if needed. I have A2003.

The ReportUtilities Web page contains versions for A97, A2K and A2002. You
can use the 2K or 2K2 versions without converting.

The error you describe is seen when you are either:
1) Trying to convert the MDB without first saving the ZIP archive to disk.
2) Converting an A97 MDB directly to A2003.

Out of curiosity, Stephen, what's the issue converting from Access 97 to
Access 2003?

S

Stephen Lebans

I'm not sure Doug. Because it is not always repeatable I have not be able to
debug. I have reproduced it here on several occasions so I know it's real.
Back to picking out sinks. What fun!

Okay, I downloaded A2K2 version. As stated in the readme file, I attempted
to download the A2K2ReportSpecs.mde and add this to the references. But,
forgive my ignorance, I can't find the Report Specs on the ATTAC website
(used address provided in the readme file). Can you point me in the right
direction, please?

Also, seeing all the wonderful options on the Report Utility, I only need
the transfer to Word (rtf). Therefore, do I need to copy all the modules
into my dbase for this, or do I need only certain ones.

I think this will do the trick for me, I just need a little more directions.
I suppose my strength is not in dbase development but in knowing where to
look and when to ask for help. You all have been invaluable for me for many,
many years. THANK YOU!

Why would you look for the ReportSpecs.MDE file on the Attac web site? It is
included in the archive you downloaded.

Since you had to ask the question, the simplest solution is to copy all of
the modules into your own MDB.

I'm doing something wrong. It tells me that this is a missing reference, and
I have no idea where to browse for the reference. Also, your readme file
states that this reference needs to be obtained. I read in other posts that
people put the mde into the same folder where the database is and then load
it from there. It seems to work for others so I don't know what I'm doing
wrong. But it gets hung up even if I don't load it into my dbase, that is,
run your version.
Please be patient with me so I get this going. I think it is the solution to
my problem, but I need more help.
The downloaded version states in properties that it is
"A2K2ReportUtilitiesver2" (directly copied from the version), and I'm using
A2003 in the office and XP at home, both in a Windwos XP platform. I
unzipped the dbase properly, but can't get it going; it gets hung up in
various places when it executes the code, and I think the missing reference
may be the problem - maybe.
Thanks.

Go into the VB Editor and select Tools | References from the menu bar (make
sure no code is running when you do this).

Examine all of the selected references.

If any of the selected references have "MISSING:" in front of them, unselect
them, and back out of the dialog. If you really need the reference(s) you
just unselected (you can tell by doing a Compile All Modules), go back in
and reselect them.

If none have "MISSING:", select an additional reference at random, back out
of the dialog, then go back in and unselect the reference you just added. If
that doesn't solve the problem, try to unselect as many of the selected
references as you can (Access may not let you unselect them all), back out
of the dialog, then go back in and reselect the references you just
unselected. (NOTE: write down what the references are before you delete
them, because they'll be in a different order when you go back in)

Thanks. I found the reference. I'm still struggeling a bit; all works fine
when I put my data into the database of Steve Lebans, but when I copy his
file into mine, things go wild. Nevertheless, I think I can work it out if
my user is satisfied with the limited editing capablity of the graphic file
that is produced by the report utility.
I read the explanation about the export to rtf at the site of Allen Brown,
and it does make sense. But one would think the Microsoft would come up with
a soluction. I noticed that the question about trunctuation when exporting
Access Reports to Word pops up over and over in many newsgroups.
Anyway, thanks to all of you for your help. I have a new assignment for a
database, probably again loaded with memo fields, so I'm sure, I'll ask for
help again. I wish my facility would hire a person who is more prepared than
I am, but until then, thanks goodness for you generous people.
