ledger sheets in Excel 2008?

Care to offer any proof in the form of links to any sites other than
those you write yourself?

Malware is mostly spread via e-mail, no? People opening attachments
seems to be the most frequent problem, and most of those attachments
are either script files or executables, not Excel files, and they
become pernicious by installing themselves as system drivers running.

And assuming virus writers are cleverer than you (a very safe
assumption), why would they want to limit the scope of their creations
by limiting them to machines with Excel installed rather than all
Windows machines?

oh Harlan;

I thought that you had died of a heart attack from being a fat lazy
spreadsheet dork.

I eat more numbers than you do before breakfast

does anyone know the length of term from my volt non-disclosure

is there a statute of limitations? any lawyers around here that know
volt contracts? ROFL

what did you want to see.. proof that the most prevalent malware is
excel spreadsheets!!

SOLD.. I've already got the numbers ready; and I sure as **** didn't
copy and paste formulas LoL

DRAG AND DROP BITCH
my pivotTables are more powerful than yours

that's the funny thing.. I've been around the row limit for the past 10
years you fucking retard

The reason I ask is because you're suggesting (it seems) that everyone
has access to everything. For the same reason SQL server has
permissions to restrict user access, and database staff to access data
that's not available to all users. One of the reasons is data
integrity - if you give everyone access to everything, your security
means nothing. Another reason is confidentiality.

So let's say someone should not have access to the SQL Server base at
all. How ought they proceed?

Also, what is the problem with using Excel for ledger sheets for a
small (single-person or <10 employees) company? And if you're
anti-Excel, why not use Access, which can basically do the same things?
SQL Server is overkill in many situations.

I'm not arguing for ledger sheets in Excel, I'm just trying to
understand how far-reaching your outcry for SQL Server is.

No doubt you've dreamed up some numbers. How about providing links to
any security sites with numbers? Or do you believe anyone would take
any uncorroborated numbers you post as anything other than the
festering fruit of your deranged mind?

I OWN THIS DATA FIRST HAND IVE SEEN IT.

HAVE YOU EVER WORKED IN INTRUSION DETECTION, HARLAN?

I've done it a couple of times; primarily for a large software company
in Redmond, WA.

I have proxy log and event log information that demonstrates that Excel
is the most popular form of malware

something like 70% of all malware ever written is Excel macro viruses

and I for one-- refuse to use a platform that is inherently insecure.

Because people mail spreadsheets around; because excel is mis-used for
reporting and data entry-- it is a prime target.

Access is inherently more secure than Excel.

Why should people not write ledger information in a spreadsheet?

a) it's not secure
b) it's not scalable
c) it's single user
d) Excel doesn't support audit-trails
e) Excel can't even enforce that you enter a currency DATATYPE in a
particular column
1 - either disable macros
2 - paste data into your cell-level validation

Excel sucks balls and anyone using it is going to run out of steam when
they hit the 65k row limit.

ROFL

MIcrosoft promised to have convertors available for previous versions
of Office-- but WHERE ARE THEY?

Microsoft can't deliver; MS is a bunch of Excel fags that don't
understand tech or marketing

If you own it, why mention nondisclosure agreements? Or are the first
several words as meaningless as most of what you write, and the gist
being you [believe] you've seen it?
HAVE YOU EVER WORKED IN INTRUSION DETECTION, HARLAN?

No. And will any of your claimed erstwhile employers claim you have?
That's actually WORKED as opposed to having been employed, but wound up
just firing off your mouth, so canned as soon as possible?

So many of them have backed up your claims!

In other words, nothing that any one else could verify.

I could whip up a text file that looks like an event log myself.
Doesn't prove anything. But unlike you, I'm not trying to prove
anything other than the blatantly obvious fact that your making noise
out your backside.

Postings from Aaron == 100% methane (and trace noxious gases). Subtract

Postings from Aaron == 100% EXCEL _CRAP_

Excel is _NOT_ a software development tool

it is a security risk; it is a complete and utter market failure.

If Excel had ACTION QUERIES, REPORTING AND ETL then maybe it would be
suited for 1/4 of the tasks that you guys use it for.

as it is; it is a completely worthless tool
and it is a security NIGHTMARE.

why would you WANT 100 different copies of the same metrics?

and for the record; normal companies don't fire people for SPEAKING IN
CAPITAL LETTERS

those dipshits in Redmond need to get out into the real world; I know
first hand that their actions were immoral and illegal.

firing someone for speaking the truth is not legal.
firing someone who is complaining about a security hole is not a
solution.

Microsoft shouldn't sell us a more secure version of Excel; they should
GIVE us a patch that works; the first time.

I'm sick and tired of building a new Windows machine and it's
compromised within a coupel of minutes.
Vista won't make it better; Office 2007 won't make it better.

What would make it better is to stop firing people that disagree.
It would make sense to not fire someone who is working in a role as
'MSN Quality of Service'
when they've got 13 email FAILURES in the matter of a month; maybe you
should FIX THE PROBLEM instead of firing the person who bitches about
it.

The real problem with Microsoft is that these dipshits are stuck in
spreadsheet hell; they can't QUERY a thousand spreadsheets in order to
find out 'why are we losing customers'

Excel is a dead end street kid

So in addition to your other demonstrated areas of ignorance we can add
ignorance of the meaning of what 'at will' employment. In the US you
can be fired for not doing what you're told. You're a prime example of
someone who can't take direction.
firing someone who is complaining about a security hole is not a
solution.
....

Not a solution to fixing the claimed security hole, but if that
security hole had no relation to the job such an individual was hired
to perform, and that individual didn't attend to his/her job but spent
all his/her time bitching, whining and moaning about the security hole,
firing that individual would make a lot of sense. Be nice if they fixed
the security hole too.

A

aaron.kempf

eat a dick fag

I did everything that I was told; I was talking on a private channel to
other employees

I don't need to take direction from a fat lazy spreadsheet dork; you're
right-- sue me

We are not able to fix the security hole because it's a closed source
system.
In order to compete against open source products; closed source
companies have to be willing to fix bugs, no excuses.

All this crap from Microsoft about 'how it was a feature, not a bug'
made me sick

I'm glad I'm no longer working for MS. Maybe I would have been
infected with the 'spreadsheet fag' disease if I was still there

No doubt as eloquently as you do here, so also grounds for termination.

You do if a fat lazy spreadsheet dork hired you. No need to sue. Firing
was sufficient.

i was PERFECTLY well behaved until these mother fucking spreadsheet
FAGS fired me

anyone that sits around and sees the world as either C++ or Excel is

and you still don't understand my dept was 'MSN Quality of Service'

my job responsibilities included tasks to 'illustrate the customer
experience'

I lost 13 emails, the Hotmail server told me that it couldn't find the
destination webserver (which was also HOTMAIL) and of COURSE I bitched
up a storm about it.

It's called FASCISM when you fire people instead of FIXING THE PROBLEM

So someone at MSFT made the mistake of hiring you for a job that
involved customer communication, they belatedly discovered their
mistake and they corrected the mistake. So there's at least one manager
at MSFT who can acknowledge his/her mistakes and take corrective
action. Good to know.

A

aaron.kempf

it wasn't customer communication

they told me to chat on an internal channel; and I did.
I just find it humorous

bunch of excel and C++ fags out there; no wonder they can't get
anything done.

Do you want to know why it's taken Microsoft 2 years to change
Microsoft AntiSpyware into a real product?

BECAUSE IT WAS WRITTEN IN VB6 AND THOSE IDIOTS JUST _HAD_ TO REWRITE IT
AS C++ LOL

It worked just perfectly when they bought it-- why didn't they just
keep it in VB?

BECAUSE MS IS HOPELESS AGAINST THE VB MARKETING PROBLEM

fucking pisses me off those dipshits just need to either

and _I_ get fired for bitching up a storm?

I was pointing out marketing problems; I went head to head with any
executive I could find on the GAL and I fucking told them what I
thought of their crappy ass software.

I'm just blatantly surprised I lasted there 2.5 years in the first
place LoL

the bottom line is that they shoudl have embraced customer = #1 instead
of firing me.
Yeah; I had a fucking chip on my shoulder. I've lost money countless
times because of bugs in their damn software.

fuckers should be fixing bugs instead of re-writing Excel.
bunch of fucking idiots; too busy making spreadsheets to listen to
their customers

they're the ones that push us on 'the world is moving to sql server'
and then they convienently **** up the hand off from SQL 2000 to SQL
2005.

they're the idiots that won't let SQL 2000 run on Vista.
they're the idiots that won't fix SQL authentication

they're the idiots that are entering the graphics market for the 3rd
time; even though they're going to fail and everyone knows it.

they're the ones that make idiots like harlan sit around and copy and
paste in Excel all day

what a fucking waste of time you beancounters are

I don't think that ANY benefit to society has ever come from ANY
spreadsheet.

and you fuckers have been trying for an awful long time.

if 100 million spreadsheet dorks just RANDOMLY COPIED AND PASTED IN
EXCEL ALL DAY LONG; then surley something good would come of it?

as it is; you dipshits make these spreadmarts that are just a friggin
MESS of spaghetti code
