Legal Ducument Number Cross Reference

I have a contract that has a number of clauses which are numbered
automatically by word. In some instance i need to take clauses out and word
automatically updates the numbering.

How do i get the cross references to update when the clause numbers change?

If you inserted cross-references by using
Insert>Reference>Cross-Reference (Word 2002/2003) or
Insert>Cross-Reference (Word 97/2000), your references are Word
fields. In order to update all fields in a document, select it (you
can use CTRL+A) and then press F9.
