Let Resource Change Field on Timesheet - Actual Start/Finish

We would like to enable resources to enter assignment actual starts and
actual finishes on their timesheets.

In Project Pro 2003, I went to Customize Publish Fields, and moved actual
start/finish into the tasks view, and selected "Let Resoure Change Field".

In PWA I went to Manage Views, Timesheet view, and moved these fields into
"Displayed Fields".

The fields display in the timesheet view, but are not editable by the
resources. Am I missing a step, or is this not possible?

Is their another way to solve the problem of resources marking tasks as
complete that are scheduled to start in the future, thus distorting the model
of remaining work?

Scott.

You missed a step. After adding the additional published fields to the
project, you must click Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments to
"push" the new fields to the timesheet so the team members can edit them.

If you are using either the % Work Complete or the Actual Work Done and Work
Remaining method of tracking progress for your projects, then you must use
the Actual Start and Actual Finish fields to capture an early start/finish
or a late start/finish for a task. You are on the right track, my friend.
Hope this helps.

I tried Collaborate-Pulblish-Republish Assignments, but the fields are still
read-only in the resource view.

So I'm missing another step somewhere.

Thanks for the help, just knowing that this is possible is very helpful. I
can see there are many settings that have to be correct to enable actual
start/finish input.

I re-published a project from scratch, and it worked this time. In the
process, I made myself an Enterprise resource, and I think I was not before.
I was self-assigning the task through PWA, and this may have prevented the
actual start/finish from having edit enabled.

Thanks for the help and encouragement, Dale.

If a resource assigns himself to a task, the PM must approve the assignment
before he can enter actuals on the task. Perhaps that explains your
situation. Thanks for following up with how you solved the problem. :)
