Letter size envelopes in Word 2007

Question: In Word 2007 Page Layout - Size, I'm only seeing 5 envelope sizes.
None of them are the standard letter size envelope (3 5/8" X 6 1/2"). Is
there something missing from the formats? I tried using the custom setting,
but when I do my printer (HP Color LaserJet CP1518ni) stops after each
envelope and cleans itself then gives me an error message: "Unexpected paper
size".

My printer drivers are all up to date as is Office. Why would Microsoft
leave out such a common envelope size? And is there anything I can do about
this?

It's not Microsoft you need to blame for this. Word gets information on
paper (and envelope) sizes from the printer driver. The paper sizes
supported by your printer are listed at
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...ry&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=ca&lang=en&product=3422472.
The size you describe is not really the "standard letter size" (that would
be a #10 envelope), and in fact it is not listed as supported, but you can
define custom sizes; investigate the printer Properties (through Start |
Settings | Printers and Faxes, not through Word) and see if there is a tab
that allows you to define and name a custom size there; this will work
better than defining a custom size in Word. If not, your best bet is to
select the next larger supported size and make up the difference with
margins.

Suzanne -

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! Didn't know that it was a printer issue.
Fortunately, I was able to set up a custom size and it works perfectly.

I do so appreciate the help.

You're very welcome (and thank Google for making the supported paper sizes
one click away <g>).
