letter wizard changes template margins

S

Shannon

I created a Word template with a 2" top margin to accommodate letterhead.
When I select the template using the letter wizard in Outlook, the margin is
1". This makes no sense to me.

I believe that the letter wizard styles and headers and footers in your
templates but not necessarily the template itself. This is true whether from
within Word or from Outlook.

Versions of Word and Outlook?

I use custom templates from within Word and don't use the letter wizard at
all since what would go in it is already in my template.

You don't want a 2" top margin unless you want it on all of your pages.
Instead use a different first page header.

Take a look at: How to set up letterhead or some other document where you
want one header on the first page and a different header on other pages.
http://www.addbalance.com/word/headersfooters.htm This gives step-by-step
instructions. (It also has the following links)

If you are interested in creating templates that will work with the letter
wizard or use that wizard, you should look at the chapter on Advanced
Document Formatting in Using Office 2003 (or whatever your version is),
Special Edition, by Ed Bott and Woody Leonhard. It has detailed instructions
including instructions on getting the fields you want from your Outlook
Contacts for addressing a letter. (Chapter 19 of SE Using Office 2003) You
should be able to get this through your public library or at Amazon.com

Hope this helps,
