Leveling changes Work on Tasks

I have a project with 400-500 tasks, in Project 2007. When I level resources
Project adds work to several of the tasks. Most tasks get delays or splits
but a few it actually changes the work. In some cases it has added several
thousand hours of work. This change is perment (i.e. removing leveling does
not change the work back). This happens in both Standard and Professional.
This makes project almost unusable.

Any ideas?

Do you have any fixed unit tasks which are being extended due to levelling?

Hi Dave,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup

When Project levels, it ONLY DELAYS tasks until the recources becomes
available - NOTHING ELSE. I guess you are referring to the Durations
changing rather than the Work. Duration=Work X Resource Units. So check
again: is it really Work that is changing or the Durations? (Try Insertng a
column for Work) If it is the latter, than that is the result of levelling;
ie the resources aren't available until then.

Are these summary tasks? Resources on Summary tasks and Leveling are
practically mutually exclusive.
