Loaded a second copy of Office for Mac 2008 on my wife's new Macbook. Thought this was OK as the EULA said I had 2 installs. Now getting an error if we are both online at home at the same time. This makes sense now that I better understand the terms of the EULA.

I plan to buy Office 2008 Home & Student for my daughter who is off to college in the Fall. I could load a second copy of this on my wife's Mac, but will this wipe out all of the Entourage settings and contacts etc. on my wife's Mac? She just spent the last 2 days getting everything moved over from her old Dell.

Ideas?

Hi,

removing the Office applications does not remove your wife's Entourage
database. The database is stored in ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data, and
this folder is left untouched by the removal/reinstall procedure. As soon as
you have installed the new copy, run Microsoft AutoUpdate a couple of times
to make sure you are using the latest version of the Office applications; if
your wife now launches Entourage, she will have access to her database again
as if nothing had ever happened.

I can't speak for your specific license, but in many cases the
two-installation limit states one desktop and one laptop for one
person's use. What you're doing (sharing the copy with your wife) may
already be a violation, and probably isn't going to work if you're both
using laptops.

On the other hand if you purchased one of those versions that contains
three licenses, you need to register each one with a separate license
key.
