limited resource allocated to create finish date

Is there a way within MS project to have multiple tasks set the finis
date based on resource allocation? I have tried using the followin
task for a test:

task A
Duration 14hrs
start date 3/25/09
Finish date (Calcualted)
resource Bob
Resource availbility 15%

and I have found that the first task assigned will recalculate based o
availability but subsequent tasks will revert to a 100% availability.
what I need is to take a resource that is assigned to multiple smal
tasks over a certain timeframe. For example Bob is assigned to (3)
hours tasks over a 2 week period with a 10% resource availbility

Hello SAbodo1,

If you wish to assign Bob to multiple tasks at 10%, select all 3
tasks, click the assign resources button and enter 10 in the units
field. Project will calculate the work based upon Task Duration *
Assignment Units.

If you do not specify assignment units when assigning resources,
Project will assign them at their max. units or 100% whichever is
lower. If you always want Bob assigned at 10%, change his max.
units.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

In addition to Julie's note, keep in mind that Project assumes you already
knew you were going to use whatever resource assignment you use for the
FIRST time you assign a resource to a task when you came up with the
duration estimate in the first place, so it will not adjust duration
regardless of the assignment percentage you use. I have task X that is
shown as having 5 days duration. If my initial assignment of Resource Bob
to it is 100%, the duration will remain at 5 days. But if my initial
assignment is 50% it stays at 5 days, it does NOT go to 10 days. If my
initial assignment is 10%, again it will still be 5 days after I assign the
resource. BUT if I initially assign Bob at 100% AND THEN edit his
assignment down to 50%, the duration WILL change to 10 days. Work =
Duration * Units. When you enter the task and estimate its duration at X
days, before you assign any resources Project doesn't have a clue how much
Work 5 days of duration represents. When you initially assign the resource
Project calculates the work value based on that assignment. Bob initially
assigned at 100% means the task requires 40 man-hours of work; if he's
initially assigned at 50%, it means it requires 20 man-hours; and if he's
initially assigned at 10% it means it requires 4 man-hours. THEN if you
change his percentage, duration is recalculated so as to keep the Work value
constant.

Thanks Steve,

I tried your suggestion of initially assigning the resource as 100% an
changing the allocation to another percentage and it did lenghten th
task.as well as recompute all downstream tasks.

Thanks, this is just the info I needed
