Line numbers are not sequential

Greetings all -
I am assembling multiple sub-projects into a master plan (for World
Domination - Muuaahaahaahaa!) - sorry - and noticed that on one of the
sub-projects, the line numbers (which turn out to be the ID field) are not
sequential. IE: the first line in the file is 108. Line (ID) #1 is 3/4 of
the way down the page.

When I cut and paste the tasks into my master file, it re-sequences them -
which makes the Gantt chart look really whacky - hard to track the
dependencies that way.

How was the original file created this way, and how can I either re-assign
line numbers, or at the very least, stop Project from resequencing the lines
when pasted?

Thanks and best regards,
S2

Hi S2,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Line numbers - their ID - will always be sequential. The only thing
changing that is if it has been sorted. Try Project/Sort/by ID.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Sorry - I wasn't clear...

When I open the file, the person who created the file put a given summary
task at the top (I can't figure out how that was done without changing the
ID). The ID of that summary task is 108. If I sort the file, that summary
task and it sub-tasks get buried 100 lines down. What I want to do is
re-number that line as line #1, as he intended for it to be. Make sense?
Thanks!

Click on the ID number of the summary task (108) so that it and all its
sub-tasks are highlighted. Now click again on the ID number and drag it to
the top whence it will be re-numbered as #1.
