Line Over TNR in Word

F

Fritz Liebig

We recently upgraded from Word97 to Word2000 in our
office. Now when we attempt to use the Line Over TNR font,
(c)Corel Corporation 1992, to draw a line over text, the
text simply disappears.

Is there a work around or patch which will allow us to
render text with a line over it.

Thanks in advance,

Fritz

This is generally done using Insert-Object, Microsoft Equation 3.0

You'll get a toolbar. Try the 6th button on the 2nd row of the toolbar.

The solution that has already been proposed in this thread: an EQ field,
either EQ \o or EQ \x, depending on which gives the result the user prefers.
Here's my usual boilerplate:

There are two ways to create a character with a line over it, both using an
EQ field:

1. Use the EQ \o (overstrike) field to superimpose an overbar (character
0175) over your other character.

2. Use the EQ \x (box) field with the \to switch to put a top border on the
selected text.

The use of the EQ field and its switches is well documented in Word's Help
file.

Whichever method you use, you can save the result as an AutoText entry for
ease of future insertion.

--------------------------------------------

It seems more efficient, for a single character, to use a field, which puts
little load on Word, rather than an embedded object. Moreover, in some
versions of Word (97 and earlier), Equation Editor objects are by default
inserted "floating" rather than inline, which would confuse a user trying to
insert a single character in a text stream. Certainly if the character that
requires an overbar is part of a larger equation, then EE is the way to go,
but not for references in running text, I think.
