Line Spacing set to single, but appears and prints as dbl

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Intel

Altho new docs I create are set to single space, and the cursor moves around as if so, in appearance, on screen and printed, text is double spaced. Why can't this be controlled? Driving me crazy!

It CAN be controlled. You need to look at the Paragraph Properties of the
styles you are using.
