line spacing

I'm having problems with line spacing in Word 2002. When
typing text, I use hard carriage returns to move the
cursor to the next line. Word keeps adding a blank line
between each line of text even though the page layout is
set for one line per text. Anyone know how to fix this
annoying problem? Note that if I go to "outline/master"
view I can fix this problems by deleting the hard carriage
returns.

Randy,

You are inflicting this annoyance on yourself. Unlike a typewriter, Word is
not simply moving to the next line when you press the enter key, it is
creating a new paragraph. Word has features for line spacing paragraph
spacing.

Click Format>Paragraph>Indents and Spacing and you will see fields for
setting Spacing Before and After. This is the where the space before and
after (or between) is set. What you are really doing is creating a document
with many single line paragraphs spaced according to your instructions. Let
Word wrap automatically to the next line and set your paragraph spacing to
suite your needs.
