Link Bar will not add links to same URL

I often create link bars in FP2003. Sometimes I need to use the same distination URL for more than one link (say if it goes to a login page for two different activites). When I try to save the link bar properties, I get an error "This link bar already contains a link to the page you selected. Rename this page or select a different page.

Why should Frontpage care where my links point? Is there someplace to change this preference to 'allow multiple links to same destination' or some such checkbox?

Not possible when using FP navigation components.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah - I'm aware of the buttons and regular hyperlinks I can create. The link bar is just an easy way to insert a series of links into another page at once by selecting it again from the Insert LinkBar properties.

I had tried to explain the need for two or more links to the same destination - say if the destination was a login page but the links describe different activities such as "Register Here" and another "Check your grades here". Both require the same login page, but students don't necessarily know that the login will get them to either one of the described activities. So hyperlinks with descriptive names to the same login URL are necessary.

So I guess the best alternative is using an 'include page' for the menu as it could be added to multiple pages with just one line of code.

I guess I'll have to submit this to the FP wish list.

Use the "external link" feature of the navigation view if it still exists in
FP2003. (Right click on the parent and go to "external", then just put in
the URL of the page that already exists.)

I do that all the time in FP2000.

Not sure why you would need more links to the same page in the link bar,
isn't one enough?

You can just create a manual button & link if you need more.

Here's the URL http://students.techstudio.net

The links in the yellow box are the ones I wanted to use a linkbar for. I opted for using an include page so that I can update the links for all those pages at once. Infact, all the menus on this page are done using an include page.

I have another question about selecting styles in linkbars and how to select the smaller button - which I will post here under a new thread..
