Link to an embedded object

Hi,

I have created several embedded objects in my presentation, yet I want
to use the same object several times on different slides. I cannot
store the documents locally, since the final presentation has to be
portable.

Is there a way of using hyperlinks and bookmarks in Powerpoint so I
can use one and the same embedded object on different slides which
remains equal after updates?

I know that a potential (but not my preferred) solution is to use Pack
and Go, but I am looking for a different solution.

I'm not sure about this, but I think that if you copy and paste an
embedded object from within PowerPoint, it will not store multiple
copies of the object. You could do an experiment to see if I am correct.
Embed a large object and save it. Check the file size (being sure that
Fast Saves is turned off). Now copy and paste and save again. See if the
file size increases dramatically or just slightly.

Sadly enough this does not work. I've tried it, but embedding the same
word document twice leads to different versions existing in the same
presentation. Editing one of them does not influence the other one.

Alas, you are right. So now let't look at other options. You could put
the embedded object on a separate slide and link to that slide. You
might even do better to put the object on a slide and put the slide in a
custom show. Link to the custom show with the "show and return" box
checked. That way, no matter how the user leaves the slide with the
object, it will go back to whatever slide it came from. Do these options
help?
