Linkage loss

Bryce

I have been working to build a dynamic schedule utilizing linkages through
multiple projects. Just recently I have lost all of my links in both my
consolidated projects and my individual projects. I am not sure what happened
or where to go from here besides rebuilding all of the linkages. Does anyone
know what might have happened? Thanks

Are you sure they are gone? Are you looking at the Gantt Chart? It can be
formatted to not show the dependency lines. But if you insert the predecessor
column you can see if there is information in it.

If there is nothing in that column, then something very strange has happened.

Links between projects use the old DDE technology. If you EVER over-write,
rename or move any of the files, then you roll a dice. If the wrong number
comes up then one or more file corrupts.

I advise you to open all your files, save as xml format (purely text based),
close then re-open from xml and re-save as .mpp again. This will remove most
corruptions.

If you must re-build consolidated masters consider inserting with the link
option OFF. This takes a snapshot and consolidates resource data. A simple
recorded macro makes this easy to do once a week.

I am not so sure what you mean by "gone". If they have just disappeared, try
Tools/Options... pull the view tab, Select show external predecessors and
successors check boxes.

The other possibility is the subproject files have been moved or renamed.
That is an absolutle "no sale" for this type of link.

What we do here is place the Master and all subproject files into the same
folder. That is helpful, but not always pratical. The major offender is
some CAM will go out and save a newer version of his file tagged "Rev A" or
"As of MMDDYY" and that throws the whole process.
