Linked files and expanded timelines

I have several Visio files each containing a 5-year "master" timeline format
that I would like to be able to link into other Visio files, say for ex. a
new 2-year timeline file which would contain links to several master files or
a new XYZ timeline file which could contain links to serveral other master
files, with a slightly different look.

Is it possible to:
start with the original timeline linked in but then change look to that more
like an expanded timeline
or
start with orginial timeline linked in but then add or remove activities?
