I am using Outlook 2000 and Access 2000. I have created a linked Access
table to an Outlook contacts folder, and it is displaying custom fields
(which my research indicates should not be possible).
If I change the "view" in Outlook, switch folders and then back to the
linked contact view, then open the linked table in Access, I sometimes get
custom fields, and sometimes not (seems to depend on the "view" I've
selected in Outlook).
What gives? I discovered this while searching for the best way to import
Outlook contacts into Access, begin doing all my data-changing there, then
link a basic "contacts" table back to Outlook.
If anyone can point me to reading on the vagaries (or advisability) of
linked Access/Outlook tables, I would be very appreciative.
A brief description of what I want to do:
1. Current contacts (with many custom fields) are in Outlook
2. Want to port them (and the info in the custom fields) to Access, handle
data and tracking in Access, (don't care if I have to import them via Excel,
etc.) then
3. Link a basic "contacts" table back to Outlook for email handling.
Prefer this basic table to be live-linked.
But this "accidental" connection to certain custom (not the standard
user-defined Outlook) fields has me stumped. Everywhere I've read this
can't be done.
Thanks in advance for any help.
