Linked Projects

Hi All

Apologies again if this is easy !!

I have a job comprising of a number of sub-project files which have been
inserted into an overall 'master' project file. All of these files live on my
hard-drive.

If I send the master file to another user, will they be able to see and open
the sub-project files ?? If not, how to I send them the full suite of files
for the links to work ?

Thanks :)

Hello Swansea Jack,

In order to open all of the files, you will need to send them the
individual files. I'd suggest place all the files into one
directory/folder and then zipping all the files into one zip
file.Instruct the recipient to unzip them all to the same directory
(folder) and you should be all set.

The other option is to convert the master project into a "static" master
by removing the links to the subproject files. Double click on the
inserted summary task for the subfile to show the Inserted Project
Information dialog box, click on the Advanced tab and remove the check
from the "Link to Project" checkbox. You'll then have an unlinked copy
of the tasks from the file in the master project for more of a "snap
shot" presentation.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Swansea,
Sending just the master will not work since the other user presumably
cannot access files on your computer, and that's what the master would
need to do. Send them the whole suite of files. Project should
automatically translate the links to his PC and directory.

Hi JulieS

Thanks for your prompt reply.

I thought I'd have send the sub-project files as well but wasn't sure if MSP
would re-establish the links when re-opened but it appears it does.

Cheers

You're welcome and thanks for the feedback. As long as you maintain the
same relative path between the master and subprojects, all should be
well.
