Yes; use the Network Neighborhood to navigate to the database when
using File... Get External Data... Link or the Linked Table Manager.

I am thinking of putting a full URL in; as in
www.somewhere.com/database.mdb and it will work by opening
an ODBC and retriving the data; not just getting data
stored somewhere on the LAN. If I try it it gives me an
invalid file name error.

well, AFAIK it won't.
