Linked tasks in a project that is a sub-project in a master projec

We have an interesting issue: we have a Master Project that contains links to
3 subprojects. But each subproject has linked tasks to other projects.

In PWA, when a user looks at the Master Project, they can see that the
sub-project is a linked project in the indicator column, BUT, the linked
tasks in that sub-project to another schedule does not have a linked task
indicator.

Is this possible with PS2007?

Thanks.

In Project Server 2007 there is a new feature called a deliverable. This is
the preferred way of linking between projects and has its own unique bar
shape.

Phillip, I think you may be confusing inserted projects (the projects that
make up a master project) with cross-project links (predecessor-successor
relationships between projects).

Inserted projects will show the icon you mention.
Cross-project links will show up as "ghost tasks" in a project detail view.

Rob, I must respectfully disagree with your assertion that deliverables are
"the preferred way of linking between projects." That would be like saying
that aspirin is the preferred medicine for a headache.

The Deliverable functionality is useful in some circumstances, but not in
others. The right choice depends on functional needs, organizational
processes, and people issues. Two weeks ago I was helping a large customer
switch from Deliverables to managed, indirect Give-Gets using cross-project
links. The Deliverables functionality just wasn't giving them what they
needed.

Thanks for both the responses.

I experimented with the deliverable option, but the formatting did not
transfer over from Project to PWA. We ended up going into Server
Settings>Gantt Chart Formats and formatting "external tasks" to be another
color other than the default black or blue.

The cross-project links do show up as ghost tasks in Project, but there is
no distinguishing formatting when displayed in PWA. The formatting option in
Gantt Chart Formats made the distinction.

That being said, is there a way to publish a note on a task in Project to
where it is displayed in the indicator column in PWA-like the inserted
project icon displays?

Thanks again.

Sadly, no, if you mean a Task Note. You can link to a SharePoint document
and get a PWA icon, but there's no icon for a Task Note.
