Linking across projects task order

I use MSP Server 2007. I have linked tasks across projects using
predecessors and successors (<>\project\task#). The project from which I
establish the link works great. The project that gets linked to, shows the
greyed out tasks at the top of the task list in the Gantt Chart view. When I
try and move them where they should be in the project, they move back to the
top of the task list. I have tried cutting and pasting the tasks and I have
just done a click/hold to move it into place. The cutting and pasting
removes the link and the click/hold does not stick in the right place.
