linking autocaption to paragraph text

Majella

Hello
I am working on a word document that has both text and
photos. The photos are on autocaption so I can insert
another photos where necessary and don't need to change
the Figure no. etc. I make a reference in a paragraph to a
particular photo, when I link this reference to a text
paragraph the Figure no. increases instead of staying the
same number. How can I modify this problem?
