Linking Cells Between Sheets

This very straight forward function no longer works for me.

When I enter "=" the cell reference cell changes to "ACOSH" as opposed to
"VLOOKUP" on other computers.

This will not eference cells on other worksheets within the same spreadsheet
and even worse, changes seamingly random cell values in existing
spreadsheets, often creating circular references.

Nobody seems able to help and a the moment I am considering re-installing
office!

ACOSH is one of the Trigonometric Functions

Simply typing an "=" sign in a cell should not invoke VLOOKUP or any other
Function

What else are you doing?

Are you saying that when you type an equal sign in a cell on other computers it
adds VLOOKUP to the cell so you get =VLOOKUP(

VLOOKUP is not a cell reference........it is a worksheet function.

But on your computer entering an equal sign adss ACOSH to the cell and you get
=ACOSH(

Can you copy the cells contents and paste into a post as text?

No when I type "=" into any cell, the cell reference cell at the top left
hand corner of the spreadsheet, turns from "A1" or whatever to "ACOSH".

Does this make any sense!?

Now it becomes clear.

You are looking at the Name Box in upper left corner.

When you type an "=" sign in a cell Excel expects a Function to follow.

The Name Box will show the last used Function.............in your case ACOSH

You can enter the "=" sign then click on the dropdown for the name box and
choose the VLOOKUP function if you wish........or any other function.
