Linking cells - in 2 separate tables

I'm having difficullty linking cells in 2 separate tables
(in Word 97).

I've bookmarked the first table: table1

and i want to copy cell A1 from table1 to a cell in
another table.

I do this:

1. click in the cell i want to copy to
2. Table > Formula
3. In the Formula field I type "=(table1 A1)"
4. "OK"

But instead of the field copying I get:

"!Syntax Error, A1"

Can anyone help?

David,

I don't have a technical explanation for the behavior, but
a solution is to use a function with the formula. For
example { =sum(table1 a1)} will return the content of a1

Thanks Greg

This works when copying numeric cells. But I should have
made my original problem clearer.

I'm trying to copy a text cell.

Do you have any suggestions?

David,

I think your only option is to individually bookmark the
cell holding the value and then use a REF field in the
other table. For example, bookmark a1 as TAB1A1 and use
the field { REF TAB1A1 }

Thanks Greg

Your help is much appreciated - table cells now linked.
Thanks again
