Linking from Excel to a bookmark in word

I am trying to create a link from an Excel worksheet to a specific bookmark in a Word document, but when I click Bookmark in the Hyperlink window I get an error message "Could not open or parse this file". Why is it not working?

Because XL doesn't know how to interpret a Word file.

instead, after inserting the name of the Word file, type an octothorpe
(#), and the bookmark name, e.g.:

Link to: file://localhost/Users/je/Documents/test.doc#mybookmark
