Linking objects

Am trying to link an object in powerpoint 2000 but get the
following error ?

It isn't possible to create a link to C:\Proposals\etc.
etc...\drg001.jpg

This only occurs on my PC, same function works fine on
colleagues pc's in the same office with the same files.

What happens if you doubleclick the file in Windows Explorer?

Does it open in a particular app? Which one?

Keith,
In addition to Steve's comment, try shortening the path as a test on
your machine. ISTR that there is a limit to the number of characters
in links. Probably 256 characters.
