Linking Tasks Problem

R

Ray.Joseph

I am having problems linking tasks. I have a project with two phases.
I have multiple links in tasks in the first phase but not linked to the
second phase. I have multiple tasks in the second phase that are
linked together but none to the first phase. I want to link the two
phases.

When I click on the parent task in the first phase then on the parent
task of the second phase and then click the link button I get an error.
It says that some of my tasks in the second phase are linked to tasked
in the first phase and that it won't let me build a circular link. I
checked the links in the second phase and none were linked to the
first. To test, I deleted all links in the second phase. Then I tried
to link the two parent phases but got the same error.

What am I missing?

One thing to check, do you have SP2? If not, download it from microsoft.com.

Secondly, copy the predecessors column either to a Text field such as Text1
or to Excel, then delete the contents of the Predecessors column. Now try
linking the phase summary tasks.

You can copy the predecessors back afterwards, of close and don't save
changes.

What happens?

Rod,

I have SP2.

I deleted the predicessors in the first phase and now it works.

I had links going forward that were causing the problem. From the
error message, I thought it was a backward link problem. Now I see
that it can only be a forward link problem.

Thanks
