I want people to download a certain font toinstall on their pc and then view my site with but when I link it to the font which is in the root of my website, and once published, it opens up a new page with a cannot be found error. I cannot for the life of me remember any other way of doing it - please help !!

Please bear in mind that a lot of us won't download anything from your site
because of security issues. (And the LAST thing I need is another font!)

Search for info about WEFT ... font embedding in Google. I'm with JoAnn - I
wouldn't download a font. If you really want to use a special font for a
heading or title then make a font gif in you image eding program such as
Fireworks.
Font embedding with WEFT only works with IE ... and is more trouble than it
it worth trying.

try this:
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/web/embedding/weft/
I used it on http://nedp.net/newh/xmas
and it worked OK. it's really a neat idea even if the support is "spotty".
it's a lot of technology for free ;-)
