In general, can you link Project to Excel data such as dates and
descriptions? To what extent can you link data between the two programs. Any
help would be appreciated, JAD
JAD,
The answer is yes and there are various ways to do it. One way, although
generally not recommended, is to use paste links. I say it is not
recommended because paste links are very fragile and unless the user
exercises extreme discipline, they are prone to corruption. Nonetheless,
they are true links and generally update automatically.
Other methods include export maps (static data only) or the "Analyze
timescaled date in Excel" utility found on the "Analysis" toolbar
(timescaled data). These two methods aren't really links but they can be
used to get the data from Project to Excel. Each requires manual
initiation for the update to occur.
If you take it one step farther, VBA can be used to share virtually any
data between many applications. A VBA macro can be initiated manually or
if an event type macro is used, the transfer of data can be set up to
occur automatically (e.g. when the project file is opened or closed).
Hope this helps.
