Linking to FoxPro Databases with Access 2003

We're just in the process of upgrading to Windows XP and Office 2003. We have
several Access 97 databases that link to FoxPro databases. Access 2003 can't
link directly to FoxPro and so we're directed to use the Visual FoxPro ODBC
driver. The problem is that this doesn't appear in the list of data sources
in the ODBC setup page. I seem to go round in circles, and can't find any
helpful downloads. Any suggestions welcome.

I've tried the following links:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;824264
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;277772
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vfoxpro/downloads/odbc.asp - this doesn't give
the latest ODBC driver as stated on the previous link, takes you to the
Foxpro home page.

I seem to be pointed in the direction of Microsoft OLE DB Provider for
Visual FoxPro 8.0, which I can download, but can't see quite how to use it!

At the moment the only way round it that I can see is to use Office 2003
without Access and use Access 97.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I assume you download and install the FoxPro driver here:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/vfoxpro/downloads/updates/odbc/default.aspx

By the way, before you do this..have you tried using those FoxPro files as
dbase files? Often, for older Fox files..you can use the dbaseIV drivers in
ms-access..and they work.

anyway, lets just use the above driver...

You then simply create a new table...select link..and then select odbc..and
then select the Visual FoxPro driver.

If this files are actually old style .dbf files (one table to a file), then
you can select "Visual FoxPro tables"

At this point you then "configure connection"..and are given a option to
select "Visual FoxPro databases (.dbc), or "free Table Directory"

You likely want the 2nd one....

Now, just whack the browse button..and browse to the .dbf file....

You are then asked to select a key field(s) here...

Thank you for that, and sorry for taking so long to reply.

It was finding exactly where to download the ODBC driver that I was
struggling with - but that link sorts it. Now I can link to the FoxPro files
with out a problem.

They are actually Foxpro 2.6 files - I had tried using the dbaseIV hoping
that might work but no joy there. Anyway, sorted now.

Thanks again
