linking two forms

i am unable to complete the following.

i have two forms for a client on a 1-1 basis, however when i open up the
secondry form i can not get any of the data from the first form to be
transferred to the second form, thus the second form being linked to the
first with the same clients data.

i have tried the command button with select specific data, but this does not
work as there is no data in the second form and i get a blank form.

any suggestions.
