Links and Fields

I'm creating a presentation that will refer to a few
numbers in many places thorugh the document. I'd like to
develop a system that allows me to update the number once
and have this feed to all the slides where the number is
used.

I investigated the custom fields in File Properties, but
couldn't figure out how to reference the fields in the
slides.

Anyone know how to do this?

Would it help to create the number in Excel and link those specefic cells
into PowerPoint?

I tried this, but it appeared to force me to create a
separate box. I was hoping to have the link as text
within existing text boxes, not a separate box. I was
able to do this in Word, and it was really nice.

Thanks for the suggestion; I'll keep trying.
