In Outlook 2000, when clicking on a link in an email message, sometimes the
link will appear in the currently open instance of Internet Explorer on my
desktop, but most of the time it will open a new IE windows regardless if
one is already open or not.
Variables: If no IE window is currently open when clicking on a link in an
email message, a new IE window will open, then subsequent links inside email
messages will open in that same browser window - for a certain length of
time (if the computer has been running overnight, or long enough to enter
Standby Mode and come back out of it, email links will start opening new
browser windows). If the link is contained in a PLAIN TEXT email message,
it will almost always open in the currently open instance of IE; the problem
usually only occurs with links in HTML messages.
I have Outlook XP on my work computer and this behavior does not occur
(email links always open in the currently active instance of Internet
Explorer if one is running). Forcing new IE windows from links inside email
messages is only happening on this computer, using Outlook 2000.
Is there any way I can force this version of Outlook to re-use already open
Internet Explorer windows? (The setting in Internet Explorer's Options for
re-using windows has no effect on Outlook 2000's behavior.)
Thanks.
