I use links excessively in many projects and have studied 'absolute' vs
'relative' - thinking that my problem must be in HOW the links in thi
one system were created.
_I've_got_1_system_compiled_of:_
10 main computation workbooks ( that hold computed results and graph
)
8 workbooks that feed in financial dept info
6 user entry form workbooks for each month = 72 files
1 master .ppt file ( packed with linked graphs )
Each month, the users enter their metrics into their user for
workbooks,
and the financial people enter their metrics into their workbooks....
Upon deadline, I go open up all of the main computation files and sa
yes to "Update?" - over and over until they have sucked in all the use
metrics from the user forms and financial files.
I save and close the newly fed results.
Then, I open the .ppt file and THIS IS THE PROBLEM!!!
I say yes to "Update Links" and I have to click on Update over and ove
( for about 30 minutes because it wants to know if you want to updat
each link individually )...
*All other systems I've created only ask if you want to updat
once*....then it auto-updates on it's own...( you can see the fil
names opening and closing within the Excel bar at the bottom of m
screen ) - but never have to click again....
This has nothing to do with the "options" check box -- because I D
want the system to prompt me on updating....
Why is it that ---- this *one system* requires that I click "UPDAT
LINKS" - over and over for *every link
----_when_the_others_only_ask_once_....?
I've got to re-design this system before 2005 and want to correct th
way the links work.
How do I make sure I create the auto-update links that only prompt onc
in all future designs
