Links with 2007 Compatibility Pack installed

Has anyone been able to view PPTX files linking to other PPTX files on an
Office 2003 machine with the 2007 compatibility pack installed?

A PPTX file linking to Excel or Word works just fine. However, if I try and
open a PPTX with links to other PPTX files, powerpoint eventually displays:
"PowerPoint can't be used as a server because a dialog box is open"

Any ideas?

Have you minimized PowerPoint to see if there is a dialog box open behind
PowerPoint?
