On my local machine, I can set up a link between two
instances of excel which automatically updates cells on
one instances when corresponding cells on the other
instance change.

Is it possible to set up such a connection between
instances of excel running on separate machines on a lan?
How about on separate instances of excel running on a vpn
across the internet?

How is this done??

Certainly is - the only limiting factor is that the one workbook won't
update if the machine on which the other workbook is residing is switched
off!

Thanks Gordon,

Can you tell me how to set up a link between two instances
of excel on separate machines across a lan or across the
internet?

Thanks again.

Accross the internet I'm not sure about - across a LAN or WAN it's easy. You
must be able to see the file in the remote location, whence you will be able
to open it and create the link. In other words the remote machine must be a
mapped drive or Network Place, with the file in a shared location.
