If our email server is Linux and not mapi-compliant, what kind of problems
could we experience when going to Project Server?

Project Server generally does not use MAPI for e-mail integration on the
*server* side. It only requires a standard SMTP gateway for sending mail. As
such, you should not have any issues using a Linux based mail server.

On the client side, there is a fair amount of integration with Microsoft
Outlook. As such, if your clients are running Outlook, these pieces should be
fine for the most part. In addition, there is some function that works
directly with Active Directory and Exchange that can be real time savers for
entering in resource information. If you're not running Exchange, these will
obviously not work.

So, in general, any standard SMTP mail gateway will work with Project Server
regardless of the OS or mail server software you have.

Hope that helps!

Cheers,

Chris

As far as I'm aware, no automated emailing will work from Project Server as
it uses MAPI.
