In addition to developers, infrastructure, database people, etc.
within IT who are collectively repsponsble for project delivery, we
also have business unit personnel who are responsible for some tasks
such as testing. However, there are dozens of people on the business
unit side and at any given time you can't know ahead of time who will
end up being assigned the task. We will only be load balancing IT
resources at a detailed level. What is the best way to tackle this
situation from a resource assignment perspective?
Also, we typically use Fixed Units because to use, adding a resource
or taking away a resource doesn't necessarily make the task shorter or
longer. Typically one person is assigned on the technical side. We
basically care about the number of days it will take to complete a
task. Is this a sound approach? Also, how would this impact
timesheet reporting in the future?
