Loading Access on a machine that already has MSOffice

Kevin

Hi,

My company already has Office 2000 loaded but without
Access. Does anyone know if it is possible to load MS
Access (my personal copy of Office 2000) on to my machine
at that already has Office (without Access)?

Thanks

There could be licensing issues if you have already installed your copy on
another PC, but technically the only potential problem I can think of
off-hand is that the two copies could be at different service release
levels. The Office setup program may refuse to install components from the
original release if the target PC has had service releases applied.

The spammers and script-kiddies have succeeded in making it impossible for

this post will be deleted without being read. Any e-mail claiming to be
from brenreyn at indigo dot ie that is not digitally signed by me with a
GlobalSign digital certificate is a forgery and should be deleted without
being read. Follow-up questions should in general be posted to the
newsgroup, but if you have a good reason to send me e-mail, you'll find
a useable e-mail address at the URL above.

I would be willing to unload it off my machine at home.
However, I receive an error message when I go to Control
Panel -> Add/remove Program ->Select add programs. It
reads the setup.exe on the CD and then gives me an error:

Another version of this product is already installed.
Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure
or remove the existing version of this product, use
Add/Remove programs on the Control Panel.

Does this make sense??

Kevin,

If you were trying to just add Access (stand alone product), you could.
However, I believe you are trying to go from Office 2000 Standard or Office
2000 SBE to Office 2000 Pro. It may be easiest to get an Upgrade copy of
Access and add it to your installation, this would let you keep your home
copy installed. I believe they sell for about $100.

To do what you're trying to do, the disk probably won't "auto play" and the
entry in Add/Remove programs is looking for the setup files for the version
of Office already installed. You'll need to browse to the disk in My
Computer and double click setup.exe. At that point, you should be able to
add Access to the current install.

Yep. Access is part of Office so whwn you put the Office CD in which
activate the SetUp.exe which won't work sice Office (as a whole) has been
installed.

Try Control Panel / Add_Remove Programs / Select MS Office / Change ... and
follow the prompt.

Failing that, you can uninstall the MS Office (without Access) and
re-install MS Office version woth Access.

Be sure you have the license to cover the installation.
