Loading Grid... Error

1) There are four PC’s out of 20 that are having the “Loading Grid…†issue.
This seems to happen in the Project Center and the Resource Center and
Approvals. We have tried to reload and re-register the ActiveX components
and tried a number of other solutions from KB articles but nothing works so
far. I see a lot of questions about this issue but not many solutions. Any
help would be appreciated.

To say you've tried other solutions without listing them, is a bit
frustrating for anyone who tries to respond. What have you done? Have you
updated MDAC? Have you tried adjusting browser settings? What operating
system and browser versions do these systems have? Do you really want help
or do you simply want to register your frustration?

Hi Gary,

I did not mean to frustrate anyone. I updated MDAC to 8.1. I set IE
trusted sites to LOW security and validated the "access data sources across
domains" was allowed. I reinstalled and reregistered the ActiveX controls.
I checked the "MIME*" suggestion and that box was not populated.

I appreciate your time on the blogs and will do a better job of describing
all the solutions I have tried.

OK, what OS are these two boxes running? What browser version? Is there
anything different about them from the ones that work? Have you tried this
with one or more logons on these machines? Do any of these machines have any
browser add-ins installed such as the Google toolbar, popup blockers, avant
browser?

Gary,

These are XP Pro computers newly upgraded to IE7 and one has the Google
toolbar. I have opened an incident with Microsoft Support and run MSINFO32
on a known bad and known good box and sent that to the support staff for
review.

We have had these users log into known good computers and everything works
fine. I appreciate your help and will post the results from the analysis.
It may require we re-image those computers to see if that fixes the issue.

Frank:

Completely uninstall the Google toolbar and see if that helps. By the way,
adding Google as a search provider in IE7 does not cause this problem. Look
at the other machines, I'm certain you'll find something like this going on.
Look at the addins in IE from Tools > Manage addins. If your users are
syncing their PDAs to their workstations, Avant browser is often installed
and this causes the problem. Given what you've stated, the cause is most
likely interference from a popup blocker or add-in, and not your base
installation.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the suggestion. I agree it is PC specific as each of the users
are able to log in on other PC's and see everything as expected. As of this
morning it was decided to re-image the PC's having this problem rather than
spend more time on the issue. I have passed along your comments on the
add-ins so the IT staff is now fore-warned.

Thanks again for your service on the blog. It is a real help.

Hi EPMLearner,

Not definitively. As I stated, we stopped looking for the problem and
reimaged the PC's having problems. It fixed everyone of them. Go figure...

An update....our organization had the users update the MDAC file as it was
overwritten by an older application that was installed and that fixed the
problem.

I read over this entire thread, and thought I'd tried everything. This was a
problem on only one of the dozen or so machines I dealt with. Unfortunately,
it was my own machine!

Ultimately I determined that it was only my firewall creating the problem.
In my case, Norton Antivirus 2007 (NAV). Since I'm running Vista, I had to
"Start / Norton Antivirus" (right-clicking on the icon and "run as
administrator").

In NAV, I went to settings, and turned off Auto-Protect, Internet Worm
Protection, and Spyware Protection for an hour.

In my Windows\Downloaded Program Files, I deleted all the files starting
with "PJ" from Command Window:
cd \windows\downloaded program files
del pj*.*

I then went to Project Web Access and clicked on "Project Center". I was
notified that I had to "click here to download the ActiveX controls". I
crossed my fingers, clicked, and FINALLY, the download happened, and I could
see the grid.

I would have succeeded at this earlier, except that I wasn't able to turn
off NAV (because I hadn't run it as an administrator- Thanks again Vista for
the security handcuffs!).

Hi ghaith,

How about checking the addin's per Marc's recommendations? Have you
find any add in of IE 7 causing this issue?

Thanks,
Ravi.
