We are using a system other than Project Server to capture labor hours. This
system outputs a flat file that I was hoping to batch load into the Project
2003 database using SQL commands. Besides having to learn which SQL tables
to use, my general question has to do with loading data at the detailed task
level vs the summary level. We don't capture time down at the individual
task level. We capture more on a cost account or summary task level. Thus,
multiple people may charge a single summary task.
The question really is if I load the hours at the summary task level, does
Project spread the hours evenly across the resources assigned to the tasks
below or lump them into just one of the assigned resources? Or worse, do I
have to specifically tell Project in my program which resource to aware the
hours?
I understand that the PWA has a nice interface which allows users to enter
their weekly timesheets, but as a government contractor this method is not
acceptable. We have another system which already meets government reporting
standards and must be used.
