loading office 2000

I have just purchased a new Dell, has windows xp. Trying
to load office 2000 and am getting error code 1608, no
compatible programs and will not let me load office. Any
ideas?

you poor guy - do you have your product key for office
2000? and would this count as a new support report or
part of unlimited installation support??

Is it an upgrade or complete installation disk you are
trying to load from? I did this the other day on a new
Sony and had no problem loading Office 2000 on a system
running the sainted XP Professional.
