Local area code in Outlook 2002

I'm trying to fax to a list of local contacts -- how do I
configure Outlook so that it doesn't dial 1+ the area
code? Thanks!

Store your fax numbers in Outlook in canonical format and configure an
appropriate dialing rule. You failed to mention your fax software.
