We noticed this morning that all user accounts at the PWA root had dissapeared.
Searching the event log, we came across this event:
---------------------------------------------
Event Type: Information
Event Source: Windows SharePoint Services 3 Search
Event Category: Gatherer
Event ID: 2496
Date: 6/18/2007
Time: 8:25:14 AM
User: N/A
Computer: [computer name removed]
Description:
The local groups cache was flushed, because Cache expired.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
--------------------------------------------
We're under the assumption that this event was the reason that these
accounts no longer exist. The issue of courses is that we don't know what a
local groups cache is and what made them volatile.
Something to note is that while users were removed, the WSS groups remained.
